Modular NEO - a Bauhaus lighting principle evolved for today
Modular NEO is the rigorous evolution of Midgard's historic Modular lighting series, originating with the iconic TYP 113 Bauhaus lamp and continuously developed since the early 1920s.
Modular NEO brings this century of development into the present: five-point adjustability, patented maintenance-free joints and a rotating lampshade are combined with Tunable White, smart home compatibility and a replaceable LED unit.

The K831 pendant lamp is available in eight selected finishes: aluminium, brass, copper, powder-coated black, enamelled anthracite, enamelled cement grey, enamelled pale green and enamelled black.
The solid metal finishes retain the natural appearance of the material on both the inside and outside of the shade, subtly influencing the warmth and character of the reflected light.
The enamelled finishes are coated twice: coloured on the outside and white on the inside. The white enamel interior provides a neutral reflection, bringing out the natural qualities of the chosen light source.
Every K831 pendant lamp is supplied with a 3-metre black textile cable and a specially developed matt black powder-coated steel canopy.

The origins of Modular NEO reach back to the TYP 113 Bauhaus lamp, developed by Curt Fischer in the early 1920s and widely used at the Bauhaus in Dessau. Its construction used a single bent tubular arm to position the light.
With TYP 114, Midgard developed this principle further, introducing two articulated arms and joints that considerably extended the lamp’s range of movement.
From TYP 114 to the later Modular series, including TYP 551, these joints were progressively refined to improve movement, stability and precision.
The Modular system continued to evolve in response to technical and functional requirements. More than 20 variants preserved in the Midgard archive document this development across different arms, joints, lampshades and applications.
Modular NEO continues to evolve this principle through today’s lighting technology, carrying forward the patented joints of the historic Modular series and a Midgard lampshade from around 1930 preserved in the Midgard archive.

Frequently asked questions
Modular NEO uses the replaceable Midgard LED Unit 3.0 PRO with Ra95+ colour rendering and Tunable White. The LED unit can be exchanged independently, supporting maintenance and long-term use of the lamp.
Tunable White allows the colour temperature of Modular NEO to be adjusted to different situations and atmospheres. Predefined colour temperatures can be selected manually using the Dimmswitch, while stepless adjustment is available via a compatible smart home app.
Modular NEO uses Matter for integration into compatible smart home systems, including Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Samsung SmartThings. Once connected, brightness and colour temperature can be controlled via app.
Yes. Modular NEO can be operated directly using the Dimmswitch, with dimming and predefined Tunable White settings available manually.
Five-point adjustability refers to the five independent movements of Modular NEO: the arms can be adjusted at three articulated joints, the lower arm rotates on the base, and the lampshade can be rotated to direct the light precisely where needed.
